Alternative Camden is a new take on an innovation district, set up to give people the freedom to create a more democratic and inclusive city.
Technology is reshaping the world around us, but too often we have very little say in the world it creates, and more importantly, who benefits. The time for Camden and its citizens to reimagine its own future is now—an alternative future for the 21st century.

Our mission is to kick start a series of experiments to explore how we want technology to shape Camden. That’s where you come in. We need your help to build a new type of local institution that helps us all create a radically more democratic, sustainable and equal future for Camden.

Dark Matter Labs︎ is a design and research studio based in Hackney who work to create more democratic institutions with the use of technology and collaborative action. They are part of the 00︎ ecosystem.
Future Cities Catapult︎ works to accelerate urban innovation, translating the latest R&D into application to create new possibilities and markets for the use of technologies in our cities.
